ALLYAN EXCLUSIVE: Former CSK Batter Reveals Why Rohit Sharma Should Open Against Australia
In a candid interview, former Indian cricketer and India's 2011 World Cup winner Suresh Raina has expressed his opinion on what will make or break India's fortunes in the ongoing Test series against Australia. Raina believes that if Rohit Sharma can establish himself as an opener, his batting skills will automatically take him to a higher level.
"I think Rohit is one of the best batsmen in India, and he should be opening for the country," said Raina during talks with our sports desk editor on Alaryana News channel. "When he plays at his top level, there's no opposition that can stop him."
Raina recalled India's disappointing loss to Australia in the second Test, noting the crucial fact that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli scored very few runs towards their respective ends while opening the innings.
"Rohit scored 9 runs for India at number six," Raina pointed out. "However, if he opens the innings instead of Kohli, his overall scoring will be significantly increased".
"We all know that Rohit is a versatile batsman and can score big runs whenever required," Raina added. He also said, there are several situations in cricket where batting first can be beneficial as opposed to facing the opposing team.
Raina’s opinion is echoed by a section of experts who agree with him and suggest having experienced players at the top order may increase India's chances against Australia."
