Mumbai, January 2024: Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has finally put an end to the longstanding controversy surrounding his Canadian citizenship. The actor had been a subject of intense scrutiny for years, with many criticizing him for holding both Indian and Canadian passports.

However, in a recent interview at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2024, Akshay revealed that he relinquished his Canadian citizenship last year and obtained an Indian passport. The timing of this change was met with intrigue, given the deteriorating relations between India and Canada during that period.

Akshay attributed the decision to his parents, humorously implying that it was their blessings that led him to leave without drawing attention. "Not any baba's (saint) blessings facilitated the change, but rather my parents', and I just left quietly," he joked.

Interestingly, Akshay revealed that he had applied for Canadian citizenship over 25 years ago - a time when he had 15 consecutive flops at the box office. Since then, his career has flourished, with many of his most successful films under his belt.

Akshay's decision to relinquish his Canadian citizenship comes as a relief, finally silencing critics who had been targeting him for years over his dual citizenship. With an Indian passport in hand, the actor is now poised to focus on his Bollywood career and endorse national causes that support India, free from any criticism stemming from citizenship.
