AI Replacing Human Jobs: PM Modi's Response Sparks Global Debate

In a move that has sparked intense discussion worldwide, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India has weighed in on the contentious issue of Artificial Intelligence (AI) replacing human jobs. Addressing the AI Action Summit in Paris alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, PM Modi left no stone unturned in his defense of human employment.

Emphasizing the importance of adaptability in a rapidly evolving world, PM Modi stated that history has shown that technological advancements do not result in job loss but rather lead to new opportunities. "Work does not disappear due to technology... its nature changes and new types of jobs are created," he said, emphasizing the need for collective global efforts to establish governance and standards that promote shared values, address risks, and build trust.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the transformative potential of AI, highlighting its capacity to revolutionize sectors such as education, agriculture, and energy. "AI can help create a world in which our journey to sustainable energy goals is faster," he added.

By affirming the need for investment in skilling and re-skilling programs for an AI-driven future, PM Modi demonstrated his commitment to safeguarding human employment amidst technological transformations. His remarks underscored the importance of fostering inclusivity, creativity, and collaboration in a rapidly shifting economic landscape.

India's engagement with France on the topic of AI is part of its effort to establish a robust strategic partnership, with discussions slated for bilateral talks between PM Modi and President Macron ahead of India-France CEO’s Forum.

The visit marks the first comprehensive Indo-French engagement with a focus on AI since 2016. This initiative underscores both countries' dedication to harnessing technology as an important tool for sustainable development and economic integration. "The bilateral segment of my visit will provide an opportunity to review the progress on the 2047 Horizon Roadmap for our strategic partnership," said PM Modi.
