AAP Shakesup: Kailash Gahlot’s Shocking Exit - A Tale of Politics and Power Struggle

New Delhi, November 19, 2024:

In a stunning turn of events, veteran AAP MLA and cabinet minister Kailash Gahlot has left the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Sources close to the party have revealed that several incidents in recent months, particularly after the arrest of top AAP leadership, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, had forced Gahlot to quit.

A key figure in the AAP's early days, Gahlot has held significant positions within the party. However, his role and influence within the party have been gradually reduced in recent months, leading him to reconsider his affiliation with the party.

Experts speculate that Gahlot's exit from the AAP was largely a result of his disillusionment with the party's handling of power struggles between leaders and bureaucrats.

Despite being one of the senior-most leaders in terms of age after the top three cabinet ministers were arrested, Gahlot did not receive the expected rise in rank. His ministries, including law, justice and legislative affairs, revenue, and others, were handed over to other cabinet members.

The party's decision to promote a relatively new face "Atishi" as chief minister instead of opting for Gahlot has allegedly been a key factor in his departure. When Kejriwal resigned, Atishi was abruptly appointed as the new CM, causing frustration among veteran AAP leaders who felt their hard work was being undervalued.

However, insiders also hint that Kailash Gahlot had always believed that he should have occupied the leadership more prominent role, citing years of diligent service for the party.

When asked about his next move, sources indicate that there are strong speculations that Gahlot might consider joining the BJP in the near future. The latest development marks yet another twist in a protracted saga of political upheaval within India's capital region.
