AAP Mumbles Over Kailash Gahlot's Sudden Departure Amid Rumblings of Reshuffle and Party Hierarchy Crisis
Delhi, November 18 (Alryanar.com): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is grappling with a leadership crisis after MLA and cabinet minister Kailash Gahlot abruptly quit the party over the weekend. Sources revealed that Gahlot was under pressure from central agencies for years but felt ignored by the AAP top brass, leading to his decision to part ways.
The 50-year-old Delhiite, who had held significant positions in the ruling party since its inception, made a name for himself with his calm demeanor and unwavering commitment. However, it appears that things may not have been as smooth-sailing for him within AAP.
AAP's decision to nominate Atishi, a newcomer elected barely three years ago, over Gahlot for key positions sparked discontent among senior leaders of the party. The decision seemed to be taken with little regard for Gahlot's long-standing contributions and valuable experience in governance.
Gahlot had been instrumental in managing key ministries that included law, justice, legislative affairs and revenue after the top three cabinet ministers resigned one by one.
However, sources close to the power broking within AAP revealed that Gahlot held onto his key positions for a considerable amount of time only because he was the most senior person left in AAP. Now that AAP's central leadership had changed following the arrest of multiple leaders and several party members quit the government including Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and Kejriwal to become Governor of Delhi, there are many who have been overlooked.
The 2020 elections' new face Atishi and her senior colleagues including Saurabh Bharadwaj seemed to get favored even though several AAP officials had more experience than the newcomers. This caused resentment among the party's senior leaders as he felt neglected but was ignored by the leadership on top.
Atishi had received the coveted position on the national flag-raising at Independence Day which raised eyebrows considering Gahlot should have been given priority instead.
