37th Jarkhar Sports Festival Kicks Off with Energie and Elegance

The 37th Jarkhar Sports Festival, popularly known as the 'Modern Rural Mini Olympics,' was inaugurated at Jarkhar village near Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib on Ludhiana-Malerkotla road in Alamgir on Friday. The grand event marked a significant milestone in the district's sports calendar, bringing together students from various schools to compete and participate in cultural performances.

The venue was tastefully decorated by sponsors Royal Enfield, Coca-Cola, and Avon Cycles, setting the tone for an exciting and competitive tournament. Punjab Legislative Assembly Speaker Jiwan Singh Sangowal formally opened the event, praising the organizers for their relentless efforts over the past four decades.

Sangowal presented a generous cheque of Rs 18 lakh to the Jarkhar Gram Panchayat as a grant, supporting the village's development works and stadium renovations. He also highlighted the significance of preserving rural sports culture and acknowledged the organizers' dedication to promoting grassroots sports events.

School students showcased their flair through a grand march-past ceremony, accompanied by school bands and cultural performances from various institutions. The local teams took center stage in their respective sporting events, competing fiercely for top spots on the podium.

As the tournament progresses, top contenders such as Burj Hakiman, Payal, Gill, Kalayan, Punjabi University, Patiala, and Dasmesh Public School are leaving no stone unturned to claim the coveted titles. Meanwhile, several distinguished personalities from the district administration and sports world attended the opening ceremony, including DSP Harjinder Singh, Sarbjit Singh of Green World, and sarpanches Sandeep Singh Jarkhar, Harnek Singh, and Sant Singh Sarinh.
